We'd love for you to spend a bit of time with us, and when you do, you'll find a really friendly group of people that will greet you with warm smiles and a friendly handshake. But if you scratch the surface a bit, you'll also find many stories of lives that have been really changed by following Jesus. We'll be the first to admit that we have a long way to go, but each of us has a story to tell about what God has done in us. What's your story? We'd love to hear your story over coffee on a Sunday morning or at one of our Home Churches. We believe that God wants to write some new chapters in your life-story and it might just start with learning about Jesus with us. Please scroll down to learn more about our story and what we believe.

Our story

1975- 1985

Mountain Park church did not begin in a building but as a home church of six to ten people led by two ordinary couples who were returning from Africa who had a calling from God to "SEE NIAGARA FALLS TRANSFORMED BY THE GOOD NEWS OF THE GOSPEL". The congregation decided to name their new church “Niagara Falls Christian Fellowship Church.” They held their first public service in Martha Cullimore school in December, 1975. The church met in home churches and different schools and experienced salvations and baptisms on a regular basis. Then in 1979 with Gods blessing and a commitment to impact Niagara Falls long-term, the congregation and Ontario MB conference, purchased prime-location land on Mountain Road, across from the famous Fireman’s Park. They built their first building, which would seat 120 people in the fall of 1979. The first building is where we presently have beautiful, modern reception area, waiting room, board room, as well as offices for professional counselling, Global Shore Opportunities, Central Community Church Niagara Falls Campus and our Pastoral staff on the upper level. There is also a preschool and kitchen area on the lower level.

With the arrival of a new pastor and a vision to see Niagara Falls transformed by the Gospel, the church experienced new growth. There was a strong vision to be innovative to reach young families and youth using cutting edge outreach through “Dial a Meditation Daily.” Many more people experienced life-change through salvation and baptisms. The church grew to the point that the first building was too small and they built the second Phase in 1984 which would seat 220 people. The second phase is where we presently have beautiful bathrooms, big toddler room, incredible café, a welcoming connecting lounge with couches and connect desk. This is also the space where we host 6 polling stations for mayoral, regional, Provincial and Federal elections. After phase 2 was completed, the congregation multiplied rapidly as the new space created more opportunity and the church was committed to outreach. Still more people found a relationship with God again and committed their lives to following Jesus through baptism. This incredible spiritual increase caused them to outgrow their space again, and they prayerfully decided to build a third phase which was competed in fall of 1989. Phase 3 is our current Worship Centre which seats 330 people.

Through the early 90s the church continued to experience healthy expansion with strong vibrant children and youth ministries and many baptisms. With the transition to contemporary styles of services came a transition of leadership model from only male elders to a leadership team where both men and women would serve. This is the leadership model we still employ today. In the mist of much transition the church has continued to follow Jesus and prayerfully kept the mission to Niagara alive. Through this passion, this faith family has constantly seen many people come to faith in Christ and choose the public declaration of baptism.

Pastor Herm and Cheryl Plett then came in August 2001 to restore the people and the building. There was a intense season of prayer and fasting for clear direction to know where to start and the cry of the church’s heart was, “Oh Lord, we need your insight.” The church believed the Lord led them to focus on church health over church growth and to paint and repair the building so it would become a space that the surrounding community would be proud to use. This provided the church with extra income through different groups renting the facility, as well as a way to serve and reach the community in new ways. At The same time, the leadership worked on the constitution, values, mission, and rebranded the church with a fresh identity through changing the name and logo to reflect the location and to be easier for the community to remember. So through a “name-the-church” contest, the church voted to be renamed Mountain Park Church in 2002. In 2003 a business owner from the congregation provided the labour and finances to build new bathrooms and remodel the church lobby. God was releasing his favour in a powerful way! Shortly after the church received requests for 2 groups from the community to rent the facilities on a regular basis. Kumon, which provides tutoring in math and English, and All That Dance both are still renting at Mountain Park. In 2004 the church reached out again and in faith, partnered with Project Share to provide food for less fortunate families in Niagara Falls through a massive city-wide food drive. Since then, the operation has grown to involve 4 churches partnering together to make a difference. During this time the church was becoming heathy again, and started seeing a record number of salvations and baptisms. During these years three more major rental groups came to utilize the building: a licensed preschool, Kinder music, and then at the end of 2009, TayKimTan’s Fun Town moved their fantastic play park to the building and continues to serve local families by providing a fun and safe environment for kids to play. Mountain Park’s spiritual growth and congregation size was the highest in 15 years.

Through this season, Mountain Park continued to experience positive changes. God providentially brought Matt & Cristina Unruh to serve as the associate pastor. Herm and Matt had an incredible chemistry and team approach, and the Lord used them to raise-up new leaders for the future. During this time the church has continued to add renters. Central Community Church & Global Shore Opportunities both had office space. In 2015, McGuire Counselling, Another Perspectives Counselling, and Durski Counselling have  moved in as well. Mountain Park church story is one of faith, setbacks, and getting up again to continually move forward toward Christ. We are imperfect, broken people who have learned to rely on God for everything. It is a story of seeing God provide miracles of life-change for hundreds of people through salvations and baptisms; a story of God providing the right people at the right time and providing for our financial need. It is a chronicle of a small but committed core who, no matter what, have not stopped praying and believing that THE BEST IS YET TO COME!

The road has not always been smooth, but we have committed to MPC’s original vision: to see our city and region transformed by the good news of Jesus Christ, and we will pray God will give us creativity, innovation and most of all strategic partnerships within our community, country and world that will provide hope help and healing. We believe God will continue to build his kingdom through His church.

“Jesus is not one of many ways to approach God, nor is He the best of several ways; He is the only way.”

our salvation

We believe that God created the world and everything in it including you and He wants to begin a personal, one on one relationship with you today!

Everyone has an opinion about Jesus. Maybe you think he is a great teacher or a prophet. Maybe you think he didn’t exist at all. Whatever you believe we can probably agree that Jesus changed things.

John 14:6 New Living Translation (NLT) Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me” Jesus claimed he knew God. No big deal, right? Plenty of people make the same claim. But not only did Jesus claim to know God, he claimed he was God. This upset the religious leaders of the day so much that they killed Him. That was 2000 years ago.

Why does this matter to you now? How does, who Jesus is and what he has done affect your life now—in your 9-5 job, taking care of your kids, paying bills and just keeping your head above water? God, the creator of the universe has a purpose for you and your life. He loves you and wants to help you because he is a good God. And because of that, his plans are better than your plans. You don’t have to measure up to some impossible religious standard to know Him. You just have to take a few simple steps.

Romans 10:9 New Living Translation (NLT) “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” The good news is you don’t have to be perfect. Through His death on the cross, and then coming back from the dead, Jesus took all of your wrong and gave you all of his right. If you believe that and commit to following him, your life will never be the same. It’s as simple as repenting of your sin and returning to God’s original plan for you. All you have to do is declare with all your heart and mind that you will follow Jesus and believe he is who he says he is.

Believing in Jesus is the first step on the greatest journey and adventure of your life. You haven’t finished the race, you have just started and the best is yet to come.

If you’ve made the decision to follow Jesus, or you still have questions, we would love to spend some time talking with you about it. Please email us. When you are ready we'd love to help you take next steps in learning how to follow Jesus.

our statements

We believe in God as eternal Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God created and sustains the universe. The eternal purpose of God the Father is to create a people who will bring glory to God forever. God alone is worthy of worship.

We believe that God became human in Jesus Christ. Jesus came to restore the world because humans have rejected God in disobedience. Jesus taught and modeled the way of God’s kingdom. He died on the cross, making it possible for us to accept a renewed relationship with God. He rose from the dead, broke the power of sin and death, and frees us to live in obedience to God’s will.

We believe that God the Holy Spirit invites all people to be reconciled with God and to join the global family of faith. Believers confess their faith, are baptized, and join in the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. Through the power of the Holy Spirit and guided by the Bible, members of the church seek to live as followers of Christ and invite others to experience this new life.

As Christians, we are called to turn:

  • from ignorance of God to a personal relationship with God
  • from bondage of sin and past mistakes to freedom, forgiveness, and healing
  • from individualism to interdependence with others in the local church
  • from lifestyle choices that harm us, others, and the earth to choices that nurture wholeness, healing, joy, and peace
  • from hating enemies and ignoring neighbours to showing love and justice to all
  • from loving possessions to sharing with all in need
  • from aimless existence to a mission of representing and proclaiming God’s kingdom on earth

As Christians, we look forward to the day when God will once again send Jesus to bring all things under God’s eternal rule.

Mountain Park Church exists to help people become: "Reproducing Mature Passionate Christ-Followers."

"We will create a disciple-making movement that changes the world one person at a time."

As we reproduce mature passionate Christ-followers we desire to Inspire Life (UP), Share Life (IN), and Give Life (OUT),

because Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)

1. The Rhythm of Living the ‘UP’ Life:

We desire to live a life of Inspiration. The word “inspire” has two important meanings:

  1. Fill (someone) with the urge or ability to do or feel something. Also a divine influence. When we spend time with Christ we want to be filled with divine life, which gives us new passionate-purposes in life. We want to be people who are divinely influenced on a daily basis.
  2. Breathe in or inhale. We want to be people who are always breathing in the breath of God. The bible refers to the Holy Spirit as the breath of God. When we centre our life around Jesus, we want to breathe in his LIFE daily.

So we are ‘inspired’ (divinely influenced) by this God-filled life and we ‘inspire’ (or breathe in) this divine life when we daily spend time with Jesus by meditating and studying scripture, spending time in prayer, or living a life of service in private and in community. That’s living an UP life. A life filled with the inspiration and influence of God. We inspire God's life through Intimacy with God and through Imitating Christ. Whether you are spending time with God in a quiet place alone or, you’re living the UP life with hundreds of people in a large auditorium, God loves to spend time with you! The Psalmist reminds us: “The LORD takes delight in his people.” (Psalm 149:4). Did you know God feels that way about spending time with you? The simple fact that you have welcomed him into your day and chosen to celebrate or mourn with him brings him more delight than you could ever imagine. Not only that, it is life-giving to your own soul. The UP practice of Inspiring Life through Intimacy with God and Imitating Christ is the first experience that helps us live a God-filled kind of life. Let’s talk about the second.

2. The Rhythm of Living an ‘IN’ Life:

The second rhythm to experience a God-filled life is the rhythm being part of a spiritual family by living an “IN” life. In our faith-family at Mountain Park we want to SHARE LIFE through Involving Ourselves in Relationships and Investing in People. When we SHARE LIFE with other people who have found their way back to God, we discover that we’re better together than we are on our own. In our new life with God we all need the encouragement and accountability of others in order to grow strong and flourish in this journey. And while a large gathering like we experience Sunday mornings is great for celebrating, it’s not always good for connecting. That’s why we encourage everyone to find a Home Church where you can really get to know other Christ-followers and invest in each other’s lives. Jesus wants us to know and experience his love through each other. When we intentionally and consistently SHARE LIFE with others, we are more likely to experience the divine kind of life that God intends for us to have.

3. Rhythm of Living an ‘OUT’ Life:

There’s one more rhythm Christ modelled for us where we can live the God-filled life. The third rhythm is about living life on mission by living an OUT Life. An OUT Life is characterized by Impacting Our World and Inviting People to come home. God has a dream for this world, and you’re invited to be a part of it! His dream is that every single person would find their way home. His dream is that every single person would experience the God-filled kind of life. And here’s the thing… God invites you to partner with him to invite people home! You have a part to play in God’s dream! His desire is that you would willingly risk loving others because you know God has risked everything in loving you. You have something to contribute to the dream of God! All through the bible the common theme for God’s people through the Old Testament and the New Testament is that God’s kids are blessed to be a blessing. It’s our mandate to be a blessing to those around us. We are called to make a real difference in the lives of those around us by being a blessing to those around us. We want to challenge every partner at Mountain Park Church to live this OUT rhythm by waking up every morning and asking God to show you ways to be a blessing to those around you each day. God will open up opportunities to share your faith with others; you can trust him on that. Your job is to focus on being a blessing and then be ready to share your faith when the Spirit of God opens up a door. Let’s start a movement of being blessers. We believe as all the partners of Mountain Park Church intentionally live out these spiritual rhythms personally; in our families; and in our faith family together we will see a movement of real life spring up in us and around us. We will see Christ spark a disciple-making movement that changes the world one person at a time in our midst. This is how we will see mature, passionate Christ-followers reproducing ourselves spiritually as we see new God-filled life springing up all around us.
